A Fine Set of Eight Chippendale Carved Mahogany Dining Chairs including one armchair, Irish, circa 1760-70.
This set of chairs feature wonderful dense mahogany and excellent carved backs and legs that are the epitome of the Chippendale form. The set is comprised of one armchair and seven side chairs that are all in fine condition with a mellow surface. Each chair has a serpentine crest rail with a center floral carving and foliate carved ears. The crest joins pierced splats with foliate and floral scrolls. The side rails continue into flared rear feet with flared cuffs. The trapezoidal seat rails have a gadroon carved lower edge and slip seat frames. The front cabriole legs have foliate carved knees and matching returns above bold ball and claw feet. The armchair has serpentine shaped arms and supports with foliate-carved and rolled handholds. The seats have recently been expertly upholstered and are in a ready to use condition.
