A very fine Federal inlaid mahogany antique tall case clock from Southeastern Massachusetts, circa 1815-20.
This handsome tall case clock was produced in Massachusetts, along the Southeast Coast. The case emulates the fine Roxbury cases being produced in Boston during the Federal period. The pleasing proportions and fine wood selections are first quality and reflect the skills of the regional craftsmen working during the first quarter of the 19th Century. The layout of the fretwork and chimneys is very similar to those found on cases produced by the Willards in Boston. The brightly decorated dial is also of Boston origins and features a moon phase with hand decorated views of a sailing ship and shoreline cottage. The pendulum door and base panel each have bold cross banded borders around vibrant mahogany panels. The clocks rests on wonderful tall French feet with a graceful lobbed apron.
