An exceptional Queen Anne walnut high chest with burl veneered fronts, Boston, circa 1740-50.

This stately high chest or highboy has superb proportions, possessing a delicate vertical form and bold stance. The chest is constructed of high quality walnut and features vibrant burled veneers on the drawer fronts. The flat top has a flared cornice with a broad cove molding above two banks of short drawers centering a large central drawer. The center drawer has a scoop carved concave front. This bank of drawers is above a set of four graduated drawers. At five drawers in height, the upper case lends a great deal of the height and grace to the proportions. All of the drawers have cross-banded herringbone perimeters around burled walnut panels and are fitted with period Chippendale brass hardware.
The lower case has a molded top that receives the upper section. The base has a single long drawer above three short drawers. The center drawer repeats the convex scoop. This scoop is incorporated into the stepped apron, that features a pair of brackets mounted with turned drops. The apron joins four cabriole legs with shaped returns and attractive pad feet. The chest retains a rich pleasing color and a bright surface.

Dimensions: Height: 76 ¾”; Width 40 ½”; Depth 22”
