An important diminutive William & Mary maple antique dressing table. Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1710-30.
This remarkably small antique dressing table with a dramatically shaped apron, boldly turned legs and shaped cross stretchers epitomizes the best forms produced in Boston at the start of the 18th Century. The overhanging top has a broad thumb nail molding above three short drawers. Each drawer has a cock bead surround and retains it’s original William & Mary brass pulls. The shaped skirt has pair “C” scrolls centering drop acorn finials and a deeply arched center cutout. The sides of the case also feature broad “C” scrolls, all with applied thumbnail moldings. The case of the antique dressing table rests on boldly turned trumpet form legs above ball feet. The legs are joined by scrolled flat stretchers with a center urn form finial.
