A superb antique Federal mahogany and inlaid sideboard, probably New York City, circa 1810.
This stunning antique Hepplewhite sideboard has excellent proportions and is set with the finest vibrant mahogany veneers and lightwood inlays. The shaped swell front top has a cross banded and satinwood inlaid edge. The top conforms to the outset inner front legs, which are set on a diagonal bias. The cabinet has large concave cabinet doors at each end with satinwood and she-oak inlaid ovals over rich mahogany panels. The swell front central cabinet has a long drawer above a pair of cabinet doors each inlaid with similar ovals. The cabinet is framed at top and bottom and below the drawer with broad satinwood borders. The lower satinwood strip has a fine herringbone trim on the bottom edge. The rectangular tapered legs have line inlay edges with ovolo tops and bottoms. The feet have satinwood and geometric inlaid cuffs. Antique American Federal sideboards such as this add immeasurable elegance to a dining room setting.
