This handsome grain painted antique grandfather clock exhibits a wonderful combination of both folk appeal and refined sophistication. The folk attributes of this antique grandfather clock are found in the superb grain painted case, regional fretwork and fantastic original dark surface. In contrast, the case houses a sophisticated brass movement with a Boston made dial featuring vivid patriotic graphics. This grandfather clock was produced by James Charles Cole, who was born in Boston in 1791 and died in Rochester, New Hampshire, December 23, 1867. Cole was a prolific clockmaker who also trained as a watchmaker, jeweler and silversmith. The amazing painted surface of this antique grandfather clock is in an original untouched state that is truly breathtaking.
