This carved and stenciled mahogany dressing bureau (or dressing table) is a rare survivor. Premium figured mahogany veneers and beautifully executed carving make this a highly desirable piece of American classical furniture. With delicate reeded legs terminating in carved capitols and a raised dressing mirror with shaped supports painted to resemble lyres this piece exudes elegance. The upper case is fitted with three short drawers each having figured crotch veneered fronts to match the lower case. Both cases have richly carved outset corners, the top with a sheaf of wheat and the lower with acanthus leaves transitioning into turned and reeded legs. It is not surprising that this piece has an Israel Sack provenance and is illustrated in "American Antiques in the Israel Sack Collection” Volume VIII 1986 page 5581 also The Magazine Antiques, September 1933, Page 91 & February 1962, Page 189.
