This nicely proportioned table has a wonderful historic red surface with a mellow crazed finish. The octagonal stand has a conforming overhanging top with outset ovolo corners and a triple bead molded edge. The top is above an apron fitted with a pair of drawers, each with applied cock-beading and original brass pulls. The perimeter of the stand has mahogany veneered panels and outset legs. The tops of the legs have ring turnings that continue into tapered balusters with bulbous reeding and terminate with brass cup castors. Stands of this form were typically used as ladies work tables for keeping sewing and needlework materials. Some of these tables have an extra drawer that is fitted with a frame for a sewing basket. This table was never fitted in this way. The success of the overall form and proportions of the stand is further reinforced by the rare historic surface which bestows a sense of age and heritage.
