Sheraton McIntire work table (Salem, Mass)
This attractive worktable is constructed of first quality mahogany and possesses carvings that are closely associated with the work of Samuel F. McIntire. The richly figured rectangular mahogany top has a half-round molded edge and outset ovolo corners with disk-form rosettes. This top is above a bank of two locking drawers fitted with ring pulls and floral pressed brass back plates. The drawer fronts and each of the case sides are set with vibrantly figured crotch-grain mahogany panels.
The table has four fully carved, turned and reeded legs. The top portion of each leg is finely carved with a rose blossom. The leg continues to rope twist carved shaft and tapers to a disk turning and terminates in a ball form foot.
