Chippendale wing chair, Boston, Mass
A fine antique Chippendale carved mahogany wing back easy chair, probably Boston, Massachusetts, Circa 1780.
This antique Chippendale wing chair exhibits appealing proportions together with boldly shaped cabriole legs, which create a handsome overall form, that is associated with Boston examples. The arched crest of this wing chair joins shaped wings which flow downward into rolled arms. These arms, which have tapered cylindrical bolsters, flare gently from the seat rail towards the arm rest. The shaped trapezoidal seat rest upon beautifully executed cabriole legs with bold ball and claw front feet. The front legs are joined to the flared and chamfered rectangular rear feet with turned and block stretchers and turned cross stretchers.
