2012 Winterthur Furniture Forum, "Clocks for Corn: Yankee clockmakers trading with the South"
This is a lecture I gave at the 2012 Winterthur Furniture Forum, entitled, "Clocks for Corn: Yankee clockmakers trading with the South". I spoke about how Northern clockmakers of the early 19th Century traded with consumers and agents in the Southern states. I show examples of New England clocks and their Southern owners. Among the clockmakers discussed are Simon Willard and Aaron Willard of Boston; Nathaniel Munroe and Daniel Munroe clockmakers from Concord, Massachusetts and their cabinetmaking brother William Munroe; as well as Quaker clockmaker John Bailey Jr. of Hanover.
